Over the past decades, emerging technologies have driven an unprecedented transformation of finance around the world. In 2015, Africa began to witness a boom in FinTech and in the span of 3 years, the continent is home to over 300 startups. The bulk of these startups are in South Africa and West Africa; with FinTech space taking the lead by 34.2 percent and 34 percent respectively.
South Africa, Nigeria and Kenya remain at the forefront of startup activity in the FinTech Sector. Fintech has disrupted all aspects of the industry — banking and capital markets, asset and wealth management, insurance, and funds transfer and payments. The lending and payments sector is anticipated to experience a high level of disruption with the emergence of online platforms that facilitate lending and borrowing between individuals and businesses, peer-to-peer personal loans, and innovative models for lending to small and medium enterprises. While fintech has grown rapidly and offers several advantages such as substantial reduction in costs, improved customer retention and differentiation of financial institutions from the competition, it presents its fair share of threats and uncertainties. Security and privacy are top threats to the rise of fintech.
This year’s edition of Cyber Security Challenge Nigeria (CYSEC NG) conference aims to address the threats faced by the FinTech industry in Africa and it goes beyond on-stage interviews and PowerPoint presentations — it’s now less talks, more of practicals. CYSEC NG 2018 will feature practical educative hacking demonstrations.

Deploying effective cyber security is one of the 21st century’s greatest challenges for governments and businesses. The threats facing businesses in the digital sphere are increasing. Whilst awareness of cyber threats is growing an understanding of how we can combat these attacks fall short of the ideal.
At CYSEC NG 2018, we will showcase and demonstrate a range of hacking techniques and methods commonly used to disrupt or gain entry into IT systems. We will examine the attack vectors hackers use, and through practical demonstrations show how they achieve their goals. Finally, we will offer solutions and guidance on how to mitigate the attacks to be demonstrated.
In light of the foregoing, CYSEC NG hereby invites all information security experts, enthusiast and students who wish to present an educative hacking demonstration at this year’s national hacking conference to submit a video demo showing the practical demonstration they wish to present.
Shortlisted demonstrators will be given a 20 Minutes live on stage to demonstrate to all participants and entire infosec community.

- Phishing Attacks
- Email Spoofing
- Business Email Compromise (BEC)
- Malware Analyses
- Cryptocurrency Mining
- Digital Forensics
- Reputational Damage – Defacing of Corporate website
- Breaking the Perimeter – Compromising a network device
- Social Engineering – The consequences of gaining physical access
- Network Disruption and Corruption – DNS poisoning
- Distributed Denial of Service
Submission of video demo must be original screen cast/recording of any security loopholes/flaws, etc you will like to enlighten the infosec community on. You are to equally submit an excerpt/summary of your practical demonstration in not more than 500 words.
